Nearly a decade ago, Kim Kardashian experienced a terrifying armed robbery in which millions of pounds worth of her jewelry were stolen. After years of legal delays, the case has finally come to court, with Kim stepping forward to testify against ten men accused of orchestrating the brutal heist.
The shocking incident took place in 2016 during Paris Fashion Week, when Kim was staying in a luxurious suite in the heart of the French capital. What was meant to be a glamorous and memorable trip quickly turned into a nightmare she would never forget. Now, nearly ten years later, she is bravely facing the alleged perpetrators in court.
Out of the ten men charged, only two have admitted involvement, while the others deny any role in the crime. Originally, twelve suspects were implicated, but over the years, one has passed away and another has been excused from prosecution due to advanced dementia. Many of the remaining defendants are now in their seventies and suffering from various health issues.
Kim, a mother of four, was robbed of priceless jewelry, including a diamond engagement ring gifted by her then-husband Kanye West—an item that remains missing to this day. She had previously shared her harrowing experience on Keeping Up With The Kardashians a year after the attack.
Recalling the moment, Kim described hearing pounding footsteps approaching and seeing two men holding down another person, all dressed as police officers, right outside her bedroom door. The assailants allegedly used a hotel receptionist to gain access to her room, while her security guard was with her sisters Kendall Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian elsewhere in the hotel.
Kim recounted how one of the intruders violently threw her onto the bed. On May 13, her former stylist and close friend Simone Harouche testified that she heard Kim’s screams of terror and pleas for her life coming from the room. Simone later saw Kim hobbling down the stairs with tape over her mouth, wearing only a robe, visibly shaken.
“To see my friend tied up, dressed in such a thin robe with no clothes underneath, looking so distressed and violated—it was heartbreaking. I feared she had been raped or severely traumatized,” Simone said.
Kim began her testimony shortly before 1 p.m. UK time, expressing her longtime love for Paris: “I always felt really safe here… I would stop at little hotels for hot chocolate—it was magical. But that Fashion Week trip changed everything.”
According to reports, Kim’s voice cracked as she spoke, and she appeared visibly anxious. Initially, she believed the two men who entered her room were police officers, especially when the hotel receptionist was brought up in handcuffs, leaving her confused. She later realized that the receptionist, Abderrahmane Ouatiki, was also a victim trapped in the ordeal.
Kim explained the robbers specifically asked for “the ring,” but she didn’t immediately realize they meant her jewelry due to the widespread terror attacks occurring worldwide at the time. When she tried to grab her phone, one of the men, who spoke French, snatched it from her, revealing a gun.
“They lifted me off the bed and dragged me down the hallway, searching for more jewelry and valuables,” Kim recalled, maintaining focus as her mother Kris Jenner sat nearby, clutching a tissue.
Her hands were bound with zip ties, and she pleaded with the hotel staff to explain to the robbers that she had children and needed to return home safely.
With tears in her eyes, Kim said one robber reassured her she would be okay, but another pulled her close, exposing her body since she wore nothing beneath her robe.
“I am certain that was the moment he intended to rape me. I prayed silently to prepare myself mentally,” she revealed.
However, instead of assaulting her, the men tied her legs together and held a gun to her. “I absolutely thought I was going to die,” Kim admitted. She feared her sister Kourtney, who was outside the room at the time, would return to find her shot dead on the bed—an image she dreaded would haunt her sister forever.
After the ordeal, Kim called her stylist and then her mother Kris to explain what had happened. She began formulating a plan in case the men returned, but Kourtney, their security team, and police soon arrived at the scene.
“I was in a state of shock, wondering who I could trust, worried that one of them might be disguised as police but secretly involved,” Kim said.
Following the incident, Kim developed a phobia of going out in public, fearing people would recognize her and target her home when she was away. “I can’t even sleep at night unless I have multiple security guards around,” she confessed.
Kim concluded by saying the experience “changed everything” for her and her family. “We never imagined we would ever feel unsafe before this,” she said.
