Rock fans in Nashville were ready to be thunderstruck on May 20 as legendary rockers AC/DC were set to bring their electrifying Power Up North American Tour to Nissan Stadium. But Mother Nature had other plans. As severe weather rolled through Middle Tennessee, the highly anticipated concert was officially postponed and rescheduled for the following evening, May 21.
The announcement came just after 3 p.m. CT via Nissan Stadium’s social media channels, citing inclement weather as the cause for the sudden change. The venue stated, “Tonight’s AC/DC concert has been rescheduled to TOMORROW, May 21 due to inclement weather. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. Ticket purchasers will receive an email with more information.”
The original show was slated to begin at 7 p.m., with opening act The Pretty Reckless set to kick things off before AC/DC took the stage. Fans, many of whom had traveled long distances or waited years to see the iconic band live, will now have to wait just one more night—though safety is the top priority.
A Tour Fueled by Rock History
The 2025 Power Up Tour is named after AC/DC’s 2020 album Power Up, which topped charts in 21 countries and earned three Grammy Award nominations: Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Music Video for the single “Shot in the Dark.” The album marked a triumphant return for the band and reaffirmed their status as one of rock’s most enduring and influential acts.
Currently, the band features a mix of classic and new members. Guitarist Angus Young, the sole remaining original member, continues to lead the charge, joined by longtime vocalist Brian Johnson. The lineup also includes rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug, and bassist Chris Chaney. In 2024, the group completed the European leg of the Power Up tour, receiving praise for their high-voltage performances and unrelenting energy.
Nashville Faces the Storm
Unfortunately, the same raw power that defines AC/DC’s music was mirrored in the weather forecast. According to the National Weather Service, Nashville and surrounding areas were placed under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. on May 20. Forecasters warned of strong storms with the potential to deliver wind gusts over 70 mph, quarter-sized hail, and possible tornadoes.
Meteorologist Ryan Husted projected that storms could arrive between 4 and 7 p.m., with 6 p.m. being the most likely impact window—right around the time the show was scheduled to begin. While widespread flooding was not expected, localized flash flooding remained a concern due to heavy rainfall.
Given these conditions and the large outdoor venue, the decision to postpone was both prudent and necessary.
One More Sleep Until Rock and Roll
While disappointment is understandable, fans can rest assured that the thunder will still roll—just 24 hours later than expected. With all original tickets still valid, those holding seats for the May 20 show can return to Nissan Stadium on May 21 for what promises to be an unforgettable night of rock and resilience.
For AC/DC and their loyal followers, a little lightning and rain won’t stop the show. It’s just been delayed by a day. After all, the power of rock is never truly canceled—it’s just waiting for the storm to pass.
